Subtle symbolism includes a leaf charm attached to a compass rose to represent Wash, a heart charm with the same “double happiness” Chinese symbol that Kaylee wears at the end of the movie, golden and copper disks similar to the “serenity” sign on Mal’s ship, along with mixed metals, textures and beads that evoke the ragtag spacepunk Western style of the TV show.
