SOLD Spacepunk Bracelet VI

December 28th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-129-spacejunkbr.jpg

$25.00 - Item#B129SPACE

This one-of-a-kind handmade piece of jewelry was created in my studio using hematite stone, glass, a ceramic bead created by North Carolina artist Elaine Ray, hardware, silvertone beads, and European silver-plated wire. Fits standard-sized women’s 7-inch wrist, but may be re-sized upon request. Gift boxed.

I use the term “spacepunk” to describe this style, because it’s inspired by two of my loves — STEAMPUNK and FIREFLY (a sci-fi cult-classic western set, mostly, in space). Each spacepunk piece is a unique combination of materials, designed to look as if it were cobbled together from bits of space debris, and engine parts. Adornment is a human compulsion, old as history, and I imagine would continue if we settled the stars.

SOLD European Coin Earrings

October 2nd, 2009 by Jen

jlh-109-relicearrings.jpg
jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  I made these one-of-a-kind earrings with 5-pfennig coins, fleur-de-lis charms, and faceted Czech glass. Hanging from brass leverback earwires. Only one pair available, the item shown here is exactly the one you will receive. Earrings measure 2 inches long, not including earwires (image is enlarged to show details).

The coins themselves are a bit of a history lesson. One reads “Bank Deutscher Lander 1949,” and was one of the first coins circulated in the German Federal Republic after WWII. Uncirculated coins of this type can be worth as much as $50, according to online sources. The other coin, which features the same image but reads “Bundesrepublick Deutchland 1950,” is a standard circulation coin issued from 1950-1999, and removed from circulation when the euro was adopted in 2002. The coins feature oak leaves on the obverse, and wheat on the reverse. The fleur-de-lis, or “lily,” is an old European symbol, often associated with France but widely used as a design motif.

SOLD Steamlock Necklace

October 1st, 2009 by Jen

jlh-909-steamlock.jpg

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  This is a handmade, one-of-a-kind item I created using real watch gears and parts, a brass lock charm, filigree and other found items. They are either wired in place, or secured in place by E-6000 cement. Inspired by my favorite computer games, Mystery Case Files, which are full of steampunk-ish Victorian goodness. Necklace is brass chain with faceted Czech glass. The centerpiece measures 2-3/4 inches long. Necklace is adjustable between 16-20 inches long, with spring clasp.

Steampunk pieces are costume pieces and works of art, and care should be taken when wearing. There may be sharp or pointy parts which could snag on clothing and/or break off, and these creations should not be subjected to chemicals, perfumes, dyes, lotions, or rigorous treatment, such as wearing while exercising, swimming, working, cleaning, etc. Please note that I have no way to 100% guarantee the condition of any vintage, recycled or “rescued” parts, in regards to being hypoallergenic, or whether they contain lead, nickel, aluminum or any other materials. Purchase and wear at your discretion.

SOLD Double Happiness Earrings

September 8th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-029-kleer.jpg

$15.00 - Item#E909HAPPY

These earrings were inspired by the character Kaylee in the cult sci-fi Joss Whedon TV show FIREFLY. They feature “foofaraw pink” glass flower beads, and brass heart-shaped charms with the Chinese characters for “Double Happiness,” which Kaylee is seen wearing in the final scenes of the movie SERENITY. They measure 1-3/8 inches long (not including the leverback earwires). Designed and handmade in my studio. Gift boxed.

These are one of the few items on my website which are not one-of-a-kind — I have sold several pairs, and will continue to make them as long as I can find the beads and charms. Right now, there are none available.
