jlh-609-timekey.jpg

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $16.00 - Item#SP069KEY

The centerpiece of this necklace is a pendant inspired by the time machine key in “Time After Time (1979),” which is one of my favorite movies. My “key” measures just over 2 inches long (image is enlarged to show detail), and was made using a little piece of brass hardware I found in an antique shop, and a faceted crystal clear Czech glass bead. The chain is vintage, also from the antique store, and is adjustable between 16 and 18 inches long. This is a one-of-a-kind (OOAK) item, created in my private studio, only one available. Gift boxed. I am currently working on some other variations of this key pendant, but each will be different.

Inara Cosplay Jewelry

May 26th, 2009 by Jen

Jewelry replicas for cosplay are some of the few items on my website which I do make again and again, because they are for costuming and not one of my original designs. But I never know when I’ll be able to make more — finding just the right parts, and enough spare time, is not easy.

For Browncoat reference, I’ve put together some images of Inara jewelry as seen in these FIREFLY episodes (from top left corner, going clockwise): 1) “Serenity” (pilot), “Shindig” (last scene) and “The Message”; 2) “Our Mrs. Reynolds”; 3) “Trash”; 4) “Heart of Gold” and “War Stories”; 5) “Shindig” (duel scene) and “War Stories”; and 6) (bottom left corner) “Jaynestown.”

And below are pictures of some of the cosplay jewelry items I’ve made over the years. I create them by spending a lot of time pausing, zooming and examining the episodes, sketching pictures, and searching for comparable materials.

SOLD Steampunk Clockwork Necklace

May 20th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-059-clockwork.jpg

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $32.00 - Item#SP059CW

The centerpiece of this necklace is a clockwork mechanism from a non-working Monarch 17 jewel pocketwatch. This treasure was found in a very clean and shiny state, I did not have to clean or polish it myself. I just love how the red jewels and brass gears contrast with the silver (steel?) parts, and have embellished it with brass beads and silvertone chain. The centerpiece itself measures 1-5/8 inches across (image enlarged to show details). One-of-a-kind (OOAK) item, created in my private studio, only one available. Gift boxed.

Steampunk pieces are costume pieces and works of art, and care should be taken when wearing. There may be sharp or pointy parts which could snag on clothing and/or break off, and these creations should not be subjected to chemicals, perfumes, dyes, lotions, or rigorous treatment, such as wearing while exercising, swimming, working, cleaning, etc. Please note that I have no way to 100% guarantee the condition of any vintage, recycled or “rescued” parts, in regards to being hypoallergenic, or whether they contain lead, nickel, aluminum or any other materials. jlh-039-serenity.jpg

Take my love, take my land,
Wear my ship parts ’round your hand …

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $35.00 - Item#BC049SBR

This bracelet was largely inspired by the cult sci-fi Joss Whedon TV show FIREFLY and the movie SERENITY. It’s also similar to some of my former “spacepunk” bracelets, which look like they were made on a space station. This piece features two large Nigerian brass beads (each measuring 5/8-inch across), stone beads, a large disk bead made by North Carolina ceramic artist Elaine Ray (measuring 1-inch across), and a large metal ring (measuring 1-inch across) recycled from a vintage piece of costume jewelry. One-of-a-kind item, what you see in the picture is exactly what you will receive, and I have no parts nor plans to make another. Adjustable (clasp may be hooked on one of three links) to fit about a 7-inch wrist, 7-1/2 inch wrist, or an 8-inch wrist. Gift boxed.

Free first class shipping & handling is included with all items! Click here for details.

SOLD Steampunk ~ REFLECTIONARY OCCULATOR ~ Bracelet

March 17th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-039-steambracelet.jpg

I spent several months creating this piece. Not that I spent every waking moment working on it, just that it’s creation was spread out over a length of time. It took me awhile to find and assemble the perfect parts, which would be both fairly durable (people tend to be harder on bracelets than on other jewelry items), and also evocative of the steampunk aesthetic.

This bracelet contains both new and vintage materials, including some old pocket watch parts, a piece from an old belt, a new faceted Czech glass bead (inside the wire coil), glass cabochon, brass chain and clasp (the closure assembly is shown up close, below).
