Vintage Star Button Ring

May 27th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-059-starring.jpg

$12.00 - Item#R059STAR

I have no idea how old this button is or where it originally came from, but I JUST LOVE the combination of silver star, brass edges, shimmery purple surface and lovely aged patina. Button is just under 5/8-inch across, and set in a brass bead cap. Ring is a size 7.5, made with gunmetal-finish wire (however, “gunmetal finish” usually means that the metal is much more black; this wire is more of a bronze color, to my eyes). Images are enlarged to show details. Only one currently available, handmade in my private studio. The pictures show exactly the item you will receive. Please note that monitors vary, and the color may be slightly different in person. Gift boxed.

Lady of Shalott Necklace

May 26th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-059-shalott.jpg

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $25.00 - Item#N059SHALOTT

“Lying, robed in snowy white
That loosely flew to left and right –
The leaves upon her falling light –
Thro’ the noises of the night,
She floated down to Camelot:
And as the boat-head wound along
The willowy hills and fields among,
They heard her singing her last song,
The Lady of Shalott.”

This pendant contains an image of The Lady of Shalott, an 1888 painting by one of my favorite artists, John William Waterhouse. The painting is based on the Tennyson poem of the same name (one stanza is given above; you can read the entire poem here). The image is set in a brass bezel, coated with Ice Resin, and backed with copper filigree. The necklace is a mixture of brass and copper, with green Czech glass, and incorporates a vintage chain with an unusual design and lovely green patina. The pendant is 1-1/8 inches across, and 2-1/2 inches long from the top of the copper bail to the bottom of the image. The chain is a romantic 24 inches long. One-of-a-kind (OOAK) item, created in my private studio, only one available. Gift boxed.

Free first class shipping & handling is included with all items! Click here for details.

From Wikipedia: “According to legend, the Lady of Shalott was forbidden to look directly at the outside world; instead she was doomed to view the world through a mirror, and weave what she saw into tapestry. One day the Lady saw Sir Lancelot in the reflection of the mirror, and dared to look out at Camelot, bringing about a curse. The lady escaped by boat during an autumn storm. As she sailed towards Camelot, she sang a lament. Her frozen body was found shortly afterwards by the knights and ladies of Camelot, one of whom is Lancelot, who prayed to God to have mercy on her soul.”

SOLD “Time Machine” Necklace

September 16th, 2008 by Jen

msb-088-timemachine.jpg

This necklace is a one-of-a-kind work of adornment art inspired by the 1960 classic Victorian sci-fi movie “Time Machine,” which itself was based on the H.G. Wells novel. Features faceted Czech glass beads, vintage pocket watch gear, copper and brass beads and findings. Necklace is adjustable between 16 and 17 inches long. Time machine pendant measures 3/4 by 1-inch (enlarged below to show details). Gift boxed.

msb-088-timemachine2.jpg

I don’t know if I would consider this a steampunk piece, but I don’t think it would be out of place with a steampunk or Neo-Victorian costume. All of my pieces are made to the best of my ability, by my own hands, in my private studio. But as with any jewelry, it should not be subjected to rigorous treatment. Pulling, tugging, smashing, yanking, bending, or wearing during vigorous activity (such as at a busy job, hiking, or out dancing) is not recommended. This necklace does have small parts which could potentially catch on other articles of clothing or other jewelry. Please use care when wearing and storing.

SOLD “Captured In Time” Necklace

September 14th, 2008 by Jen

msb-088-captured2.jpg

This necklace is a one-of-a-kind work of adornment art, created with a vintage wrist watch case, brass chain, faceted Czech glass beads, and painted pink and sparkly brass butterfly charm. Necklace is 17-inches long. Centerpiece measures 1-1/2 inches across (enlarged below to show details), and there is a small pane of glass encasing the butterfly.

I don’t know if I would consider this a steampunk piece, but I don’t think it would be out of place with a steampunk or Neo-Victorian costume. Like my steampunk pieces, this one is a work of altered or assemblage art, made with vintage materials, and should not be subjected to rigorous treatment. Pulling, tugging, smashing, yanking, bending, or wearing during vigorous activity (such as at a busy job, hiking, or out dancing) is not recommended. It should be stored carefully when not in use.
