Neo-Victorian “TOYS” Bracelet

March 6th, 2010 by Jen

jlh-310-toys.jpg

$28.00 - Item#B310TOYS

This is a handmade, one-of-a-kind original piece of adornment art created in my private studio. Features brass chain, brass roller skate, propeller beanie, doll, bicycle and monkey charms. Old-fashioned typewriter key style letters spell “TOYS.” Letter charms measure 3/4-inch across. I am often asked where I get these typewriter letter charms — I make them myself using materials from a store called Panopolie. Bracelet measures 7-1/4 inches long, with brass lobster claw clasp. This is the standard women’s bracelet length. If you know from past experience that bracelets bought in the store are too big or too tight on you, then you will probably need this one re-sized. Re-sizing is free if you put a note in the “instructions to seller” box when checking out.

Please note that the propeller beanie charm has a moving propeller on top. While this is really cool and cute, it can also easily snag on clothing or get caught on something and become bent. I will include one replacement beanie charm with the bracelet when purchased. My steampunk and neo-Victorian pieces are considered costuming pieces and works of art, and as such may not be as practical or hardy as other jewelry items.

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $8.00 - Item#R310FLOWER

This ring was made with an old button I purchased in an antique store. It’s a little difficult to tell in the picture, but the button contains a small relief of a gold flower on a stem with leaves, surrounded by a purplish patina. The ring is a size 7 on my ring mandrel, made with gunmetal wire. Button measures just over a 1/4-inch across (images enlarged to show details). One-of-a-kind (OOAK) item, created in my private studio, only one available. Gift boxed.

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $20.00 - Item#N110BEE

This necklace was created with a combination of new and recycled jewelry parts. One of my favorite things is to breathe new life into old jewelry. Or, as my daughter says, “It’s amazing how you take old junk and make it into something really nice, Mom.” The centerpiece pendant is 3 inches long, and the chain is adjustable  between 16-18 inches long. Gift boxed. Please note: Monitors vary, so colors may not be exactly the same in person.

The unique properties of iolite (changing colors depending on the angle of the sun) made it useful to the Vikings in navigating their ships. In stone lore, iolite is said to aid intuition.

Scrabble Tile Charm Necklaces

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $12.00 - Item#N109FOOL

These necklaces are made using old Scrabble tiles (no full sets of Scrabble were harmed in the making of these items). The images are cut from reused items such as calendars, magazines and other ephemera, applied to the tiles, and coated with Ice Resin. The resin is water resistant, but I recommend keeping these out of water and away from any substances such as lotions, cleaners, etc. Charms come on 18-inch leather cord with clasp. Gift boxed. Please note: Monitors vary, so colors may not be exactly the same in person.

Each necklace is a one-of-a-kind creation from my own hands. Only one of each available. I currently have a Fool (F-tile on reverse).

Vintage Star Button Ring

August 1st, 2009 by Jen

jlh-059-starring.jpg

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $10.00 - Item#R059STAR

I have no idea how old this button is or where it originally came from, it was purchased in an antique store. I love the combination of silver star, brass edges, shimmery purple surface and lovely aged patina. Button is just under 5/8-inch across, and set in a brass bead cap. Ring is a size 7.5, made with gunmetal-finish wire (however, “gunmetal finish” usually means that the metal is much more black; this wire is more of a bronze color, to my eyes). Images are enlarged to show details. Only one currently available, handmade in my private studio. The pictures show exactly the item you will receive. Please note that monitors vary, and the color may be slightly different in person. Gift boxed.
