Vintage Star Button Ring

May 27th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-059-starring.jpg

$12.00 - Item#R059STAR

I have no idea how old this button is or where it originally came from, but I JUST LOVE the combination of silver star, brass edges, shimmery purple surface and lovely aged patina. Button is just under 5/8-inch across, and set in a brass bead cap. Ring is a size 7.5, made with gunmetal-finish wire (however, “gunmetal finish” usually means that the metal is much more black; this wire is more of a bronze color, to my eyes). Images are enlarged to show details. Only one currently available, handmade in my private studio. The pictures show exactly the item you will receive. Please note that monitors vary, and the color may be slightly different in person. Gift boxed.

Steampunk Jewelry Book

May 21st, 2009 by Jen

jlh-steambook.jpg

I’m in a book! Steampunk-Style Jewelry: A Maker’s Collection of Victorian, Fantasy, and Mechanical Designs by Jean Campbell will feature some of my own original jewelry, including step-by-step how-to instructions explaining how they were made. Other artists who contributed to the book: Melanie Brooks, Andrew Thornton, Cynthia Deis, Jamie Hogsett, Jane Mormino, Margot Potter, Barbe Saint John, Annie Singer, Madelyn Smoak, Tracy Thomasson, and Jean Yates. It is available for pre-order from Amazon now, but I’m told that it won’t actually come out until January 2010. I can’t wait to see it!

jlh-059-portal.jpg

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $32.00 - Item#SP059PORTAL

Peer into the inner workings of the steampunk imagination… This pendant was created using a ceramic “portal” made by artist Elaine Ray, vintage watch gears, and Ice Resin. The necklace chain features jasper stones, brass beads and chain. Measures 18 inches long. The centerpiece itself measures 1-1/8 inches across (image enlarged to show details). Unique, one-of-a-kind creation from my private studio, only one available. The item you see here is exactly the item you will receive. Please note that monitors vary, and the color may be slightly different in person. Gift boxed.

jlh-059-portal2.jpg

This piece is probably more user friendly than most — there are no exposed watch parts to snag on clothing, no delicate filigree, etc. However, steampunk pieces should still be considered costume pieces and works of art, and care should be taken when wearing. It should not be subjected to chemicals, perfumes, dyes, lotions, or rigorous treatment, such as wearing while exercising, swimming, cleaning or caring for small children.

SOLD Steampunk Clockwork Necklace

May 20th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-059-clockwork.jpg

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $32.00 - Item#SP059CW

The centerpiece of this necklace is a clockwork mechanism from a non-working Monarch 17 jewel pocketwatch. This treasure was found in a very clean and shiny state, I did not have to clean or polish it myself. I just love how the red jewels and brass gears contrast with the silver (steel?) parts, and have embellished it with brass beads and silvertone chain. The centerpiece itself measures 1-5/8 inches across (image enlarged to show details). One-of-a-kind (OOAK) item, created in my private studio, only one available. Gift boxed.
