Rose Fairy illustration by Cicely Mary Barker, who published her first Flower Fairies book in 1923, is sealed under an acrylic dome and set in a silvertone bezel. It is paired with an element of recycled vintage jewelry that is set with pale green crystals, and crowned with an iridescent, faceted Czech glass bead. New brass chain is 18 inches long, with lobster claw clasp. Pendant measures 2-inches long, rose fairy image is about 3/4-inch across. Only one available, designed and handmade in my private studio. This particular image was cut out of an old calendar, not a copy or computer print out. I prefer to use only found images recycled from other items. I also enjoy incorporating found elements from broken, antique and vintage jewelry when I can. Because I like movement in my pieces, the fairy charm and the vintage piece are not glued together, but both swing freely below the faceted iridescent Czech glass.

A handmade bracelet I designed with faceted Czech glass, gun metal chain, silver-plated European wire, ceramic beads by NC artist Elaine Ray, and a pewter mermaid charm from Green Girl Studios (Asheville, NC). Gnome Terrariums are wonderful, self-contained, magical environments. Each tiny Gnome Terrarium has just the right balance of fairy dust, moss, and stone to maintain a single North American Diminutive Wildwood Gnome. No watering nor feeding is required, just an occasional cotton swabbing if the fairy dust gets out of control. Simply remove the cork during each full moon, and your Gnome will conduct its necessary business and return by morning.

NAMING: Each Gnome has a secret name known only to itself, but feel free to name it anyway. Your Gnome will have given you a name, too (probably something like Big Eye or Bad Breath).

IMPORTANT: Without magic, they will not thrive. You must whisper a wish to your Gnome at least once a week. Keeping your Gnome Terrarium near stones, plants, ceramic unicorns, pewter wizards, and any other magical items or creatures also helps to maintain the health of your Gnome. ALL GNOMES ARE WILLING PARTICIPANTS IN THE GNOME TERRARIUM, AND NO GNOMES ARE HARMED WHILE MAKING THIS PRODUCT. The unique properties of iolite (changing colors depending on the angle of the sun) made it useful to the Vikings in navigating their ships. In stone lore, iolite is said to aid intuition.
