Kaylee Tribute Bracelet

June 30th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-609-kaylee.jpg

$22.00 - Item#BC609KLEE

This bracelet is a tribute the character Kaylee from the cult sci-fi TV show FIREFLY and movie SERENITY by Joss Whedon. It features a glass teddy bear charm, a glass strawberry charm, pink glass and ceramic flower and heart charms, and Chinese coin charms. I have made Kaylee tribute bracelets before, and will probably make them again, but each is one-of-a-kind with different combinations of charms and beads. Right now, there is just this one available, the one shown in the picture is exactly the item you will receive. Measures 7-1/2 inches long, may be hooked on any link to make it fit tighter. If you need additional length, drop me a line or add a note when you checkout and I can lengthen the chain. Monitors vary, so color may be a little different in person. Gift boxed.

Silver Strawberry Necklace

June 8th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-609-strawberry1.jpg

$20.00 - Item#BC609BERRY

Here is a cute little Hill Tribe Silver strawberry on pink, hand-dyed silk fabric ribbon, with sterling silver ends and clasp. Measures between 17 and 18 inches long (size is approximate because the pink fabric does stretch a little, and might “relax” over time). Strawberry measures 3/4-inch long from top of loop to bottom of point. Extra large closeup picture shown below. This is a one-of-a-kind item, only one available. The item you see in the picture is exactly the item you will receive. Monitors vary, so the color may not look exactly the same in person. Gift boxed.

Hill Tribe Silver is made by the Karen Hill Tribe in northern Thailand using traditional tribal methods passed down from generation to generation, and has a higher silver content than sterling (which is only 92.5% silver), so it is more resistant to tarnish.

Malcolm Reynolds: Letter “M” Scrabble Tile Necklace

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $16.00 - Item#BC609-MAL

This is a real letter “M” Scrabble tile, made into an altered art charm. On one side, I added a magazine cutout image of Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds from Joss Whedon’s cult TV show FIREFLY, (NOT a computer printout) and coated it with Ice Resin (that’s what’s causing the glossy glint on the photo). You can see the reverse side, with the letter “M” below. It’s hung on a double strand of brown, hand-dyed silk cord. Measures 18 inches long. Charm is about 5/8 inch across. One-of-a-kind (OOAK) item, only one available and I have no idea when or if I will make any more, so get it while you can! Gift boxed.

Pink Bead Necklace

June 1st, 2009 by Jen

msb-117-pinkbead.jpg

$25.00 - Item#FF-PINK

“I just received the pink bead necklace and it’s gorgeous!” — J.Y., July 2008

I have identified the same type of bead that Kaylee is seen wearing on the cover of the FIREFLY DVD, the second Official Firefly Companion book, and in other FIREFLY promotional pictures. The beads are from Italy. I also found a type of cord that looks just like hers. It is tan buckskin (made in the USA). These necklaces are adjustable, with an extension chain that allows them to be worn between about 16 and 18 inches long.

This is one of the few items on my website that I’ve made several times. I will continue making these for as long as I am able to obtain the beads and materials. Depending on my schedule, and how many orders come in, this item might take 2-4 weeks to ship.

Here’s one of my pink bead necklaces in action (click to enlarge); photo sent to me by a customer.

FIREFLY Planetary Postmark Stamps

May 27th, 2009 by Jen

ff-londinium.jpg     ff-beaumonde.jpg

I’ve had several Browncoats ask me where I get my planetary postmarks, which are stamped on the gift boxes I send out with FIREFLY-SERENITY items. I have to give credit to Heather at Wear With Style for giving me the idea — she ships her hand-knitted Jayne hats in boxes covered with planetary postmarks. I designed my own set of postmarks using GIMP, and then I had the stamps made at RubberStamps.net. If you’d like to make rubber stamps of your own, feel free to use my images. I only ask that you not use them for commercial purposes or sell them, and that you give me credit for the artwork. Thanks!

Also, I have an “Alliance Inspector” stamp that was made by using a template at RubberStamps.net for a small, round, self-inking stamp. And I chose the purple ink option… since they’re “purplebellies.” The Chinese characters on the Sihnon postmark supposedly say “Beautiful World” — but for all I know, they actually say “Monkey Underwear” or something.

Inara Cosplay Jewelry

May 26th, 2009 by Jen

Jewelry replicas for cosplay are some of the few items on my website which I do make again and again, because they are for costuming and not one of my original designs. But I never know when I’ll be able to make more — finding just the right parts, and enough spare time, is not easy.

For Browncoat reference, I’ve put together some images of Inara jewelry as seen in these FIREFLY episodes (from top left corner, going clockwise): 1) “Serenity” (pilot), “Shindig” (last scene) and “The Message”; 2) “Our Mrs. Reynolds”; 3) “Trash”; 4) “Heart of Gold” and “War Stories”; 5) “Shindig” (duel scene) and “War Stories”; and 6) (bottom left corner) “Jaynestown.”

And below are pictures of some of the cosplay jewelry items I’ve made over the years. I create them by spending a lot of time pausing, zooming and examining the episodes, sketching pictures, and searching for comparable materials.

jlh-recyclingsymbol-sm.jpg  $20.00 - Item#BC059-I

This is a real letter “I” Scrabble tile, made into an altered art charm. On one side, I added a magazine cutout image of Morena Baccarin as Inara Serra from Joss Whedon’s cult TV show FIREFLY, (NOT a computer printout, I only use found/recycled images) and coated it with Ice Resin (that’s what’s causing the glossy glint on the photo). You can see the reverse side, with the letter “I” below. It’s hung on a strand of kimono fabric from Japan. Necklace is adjustable between 17 and 18 inches long with a clasp and extension chain. Charm is 5/8 inch across. Gift boxed.

One-of-a-kind (OOAK) item, only one available. With this item, I don’t know when I will ever find another recycled image or “I” tile, and have no plans to make another any time soon, so get it while you can.

Original Browncoat Earrings

May 19th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-bcearrings.jpg

$14.00 - Item #E059BC

Brass pistol and Chinese coin charms capture the spirit of FIREFLY fans everywhere! These are my first Browncoat earring design, of which I recently made 60 pairs and donated them to the Can’t Stop the Serenity global charity event to raise money for Equality Now. (I will also be donating some extra goodies to my local screening in Raleigh, NC.) I ended up with a few extra pairs, and still have two of them available for sale.

Click here to see my newer Browncoat earring design with real carnelian stones.

These earrings measure about 1-3/8 inches long, not including brass leverback earwires. Image enlarged to show detail. Each is handmade in my private studio, and designs on coins may vary. Most of my jewelry is one-of-a-kind, but this is one of the few items where I will make several of the same design. Giftboxed.

My Firefly: Season 2

April 30th, 2009 by Jen

jlh-myff.jpg

Before I started selling jewelry on the internet, I was a writer. I worked for several years as a reporter, magazine writer, and editor. For various reasons, I went in new creative directions, but for kicks a few years ago I thought I’d try writing episodes for a Firefly Season 2. I’d posted four episodes on FireflyFans.net back in 2007, but due to technical difficulties, the third and fourth episodes were lost. I have restored both of them, and now all four episodes are available. I am currently finishing episodes 5 and 6.

These are written in screenplay format, with appropriate teasers, commercial breaks, etc. I’m not anywhere near as obsessive as some fanfic writers, but I’ve tried to keep these as true to Firefly and Serenity as possible. They pick up pretty much right where the movie leaves off.

I’ve hesitated to fess up to this little indulgence — I don’t need to be reminded that I’m no Joss Whedon! But they seem to be enjoyable to those who are into that sort of thing. And since there’s no actual season two in sight…

EPISODE ONE: A Dream Come True

EPISODE TWO: Secrets

EPISODE THREE: Back to Hell

EPISODE FOUR: Persephone
