1000 STEAMPUNK CREATIONS

One of my pieces is included in the new book “1000 Steampunk Creations: Neo-Victorian Fashion, Gear, and Art.” With 1,000 color photographs, it’s a showcase of jewelry, fashion, accessories, headgear, artwork, home decorations and curious contraptions. I’m so excited and honored to be included in the company of these amazing artists. “1000 Steampunk Creations” is an incredible testament to the beauty, marvel and creativity of the steampunk style.

STEAMPUNK STYLE JEWELRY

Three of my original designs are featured in the book “Steampunk Style Jewelry” edited by Jean Campbell and published by Creative Publishing international, released in December 2009. This title is available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Ornamentea, Michael’s, and other book and craft stores worldwide.

I’d been making neo-Victorian jewelry for several years, inspired by my love of Victoriana, Art Nouveau, Alphonse Mucha and movies with these stylistic elements. But it wasn’t until 2007 that an anime-loving friend of mine told me it was called “steampunk.” Googling “steampunk jewelry” or searching Etsy at that time turned up very little. So I began making “steampunk” jewelry, and it was incredibly popular. By 2008, I was contacted by Jean Campbell about contributing to her book. A year and a half after the book’s release in December 2009 — and four years after I listed my first “steampunk” necklace — there’s a ton of steampunk costuming, jewelry, websites, books, conventions and more. Enough so that this beautiful full-color book might seem trite to some steampunk veterans. Keep in mind that this book was conceived at the bleeding edge of steampunk popularity in the U.S., and when it came out it was, to my knowledge, the only book of its kind — a brilliant overview of the steampunk trend. Not only does it include original work by those artists who pioneered the steampunk jewelry style, with step-by-step instructions for each project, but it also includes sidebars about steampunk costuming, contraptions, movies and music. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.
