SOLD Steampunk Clockwork Ring

September 19th, 2008 by Jen

msb-908-steamring.jpg

My first foray into the realm of steampunk rings, this piece features a 17-jewel wrist watch mechanism mounted on an adjustable brass base, accented with Art Nouveau-style filigree. A few of the gears do turn (the winding wheel and crown wheel) when the knob is wound, however it is not a working mechanism and does not tick nor operate in any other way. Measures 3/4-inch across (image is enlarged to show detail). The filigree and clockwork are not welded to the ring base, they are cemented with E6000, which is quite secure but not indestructible. Envisioned and constructed in my private studio, this item is one of a kind (OOAK) and has been sold.

SOLD Spacepunk Bracelet V

This one-of-a-kind jewelry art item is made with stone, glass, a ceramic bead created by North Carolina artist Elaine Ray, chain, gunmetal, and European silver-plated wire. I use the term “spacepunk” because these pieces are inspired by two of my loves — STEAMPUNK and FIREFLY (a sci-fi cult-classic space western). Each spacepunk piece is a unique combination of materials, designed to look as if it were cobbled together from bits of space debris, and engine parts. Adornment is a human compulsion, old as history, and I imagine would continue if we settled the stars.

SOLD Steampunk “Nautilus” Pin

September 16th, 2008 by Jen

jlh-meetup.jpg Small adornment features brass propeller (fan blades move when spun). Mounted on copper base, with bar pin back (not the tie tack kind). Measures 7/8-inch across. Designed and assembled in my studio. I might make more pins or jewelry items like this — or with variations on the same theme — if I can find similar materials, and if my schedule permits.

SOLD “Time Machine” Necklace

September 16th, 2008 by Jen

jlh-timemachine.jpg

This necklace is a one-of-a-kind work of adornment art inspired by the 1960 classic Victorian sci-fi movie “Time Machine,” which was based on the H.G. Wells novel. Features faceted Czech glass beads, vintage pocket watch gear, copper and brass beads and findings. Time machine pendant measures 3/4 by 1-inch (enlarged below to show details).

I don’t know if I would consider this a steampunk piece, but I don’t think it would be out of place with a steampunk or Neo-Victorian costume. All of my pieces are made to the best of my ability, by my own hands, in my private studio. But as with any jewelry, it should not be subjected to rigorous treatment. Pulling, tugging, smashing, yanking, bending, or wearing during vigorous activity (such as at a busy job, hiking, or out dancing) is not recommended. This necklace does have small parts which could potentially catch on other articles of clothing or other jewelry. Please use care when wearing and storing.
