SOLD Steampunk Fairy Necklace

August 21st, 2008 by Jen

msb-088-spfairy.jpg

This item sold on eBay for $69.99.

One-of-a-kind altered-art “Steampunk Fairy” necklace, assembled with new and vintage materials, pocket watch parts, faceted Czech glass beads, brass chain, silverplated wire and brass wire. The necklace is adjustable between 16 and 17-1/2 inches long. The fairy centerpiece measures 3 inches across, 1-1/2 inches high. Enlarged photo shows details, including words, numbers and other embellishments on the “wings.”

When I created this piece, I had recently finished reading the book “Whitechapel Gods” by S.M. Peters, and was inspired by the imagery of human beings being caught up in the workings of powerful machines, turning into machines themselves. I’ve been working on this item for several weeks, from inception and the search for just the right parts, through assemblage and completion.

All of my jewelry is made to the best of my ability, by my own hands, in my private studio. Please understand that the steampunk pieces are meant to be costume pieces and works of art, made with vintage materials, and as such should not be subjected to rigorous treatment. Pulling, tugging, smashing, yanking, bending, or wearing during vigorous activity (such as at a busy job, hiking, or out dancing) is not recommended. Pieces should be stored carefully when not in use. I take each piece for a “test drive,” and this item is comfortable to wear, but keep in mind that it does have pointy edges which might catch on clothing.

mermaze3.jpg My 4-year-old daughter loves mermaids, and she loves mazes, so I made this for her. It is entirely my own drawing, and you have my permission to print it out, put it on your website, or use it at your school. I just ask that you give me credit, and do not try to pass this off as your own work. Click on thumbnail for full image. Enjoy!

SOLD Steampunk Angel Necklace II

August 1st, 2008 by Jen

jlh-088-spangel21.jpg

A gear-operated guardian angel… This is the second angel charm necklace that I’ve made with brass-finish pewter wings, faceted translucent glass beads, and tiny gears from a broken wrist watch. The “halo” is also a watch gear. Angel measures 1-inch high, not including ring at top. The glass is clear, like crystal, though the image shows it looking a little gray — that’s an issue with the picture, not the item. One of a kind creation from the Monkeyshines studio, only one available.
